INTRODUCTION - BEST OF THE SPRINGS 2007
Welcome to the online version of The Gazette’s 13th Annual Best of the Springs edition.
This is the the most multi-media, most easily interactive version we've ever produced.
Want to find the Best Pizza or Best Yoga? It's only a few clicks away in the search box to the upper right.
Want to make your own comments about the reader or staff selections, just click on the comment button under each entry. You also can rate the choices.
But wait, there's more. Check out the video and audio clips to the right, and meet some of our "best" up close and personal.
EDITOR'S NOTE:
The selections for Best of the Springs were chosen by reader ballots and
the GO! staff. The reader picks are labeled as such (with our buddy, Hank the Cowboy, a sculpture on Tejon Street).
The rest are staff picks.
THE CATEGORIES
Your father-in-law wants to treat you guys to dinner. “Price is no object,” he says. Our Dining section will steer you toward a restaurant that you’ll always remember and the father-in-law will be paying on his credit card for months. If you’re going out on your own dime, we’ll direct you toward more modest, but still worthy, eateries.
Wondering about the best place to get your hair coiffed? How about a place to coif your standard poodle? We’ve got you covered on both counts. The City Life section recognizes the area’s best services, TV personalities, places and more. You’ll meet the best crossing guard and discover the best waiting room. You’ll also find a home with a jet in its sunroom, and it wasn’t the result of a plane crash.
This salute to the best in local arts and entertainment is both a guide to weekend fun (Best Place to Dance, Best Place for a First Date, etc.) and a tribute to some of the year’s top musical and theatrical performances (Best Actor, Best Drama, Best Local Band, etc.) We also recognize the best mainstream art galleries as well as the best irreverent upstarts who challenge the very notion of what art is.
Nifty lamp. Check. The perfect sexy shoes for that night on the town. Check. Fried pork skins. Check. Your cart will runneth over after you’re done with this guide to the area’s best shopping. In these pages, you’ll find out one spot that will sell you both a latte and an avalanche shovel. (Hint: It’s not Wal-Mart.)
You say it’s your birthday. We can tell you the best places to squeeze the maximum fun out of whatever milestone you’re marking. Our Family section also will tell you where you’ll find the most off-the-hook summer camps and the best place to take your youngster for his or her first haircut.
Indoors, outdoors and all around the house. The opportunities for fun and fitness abound. We’ll walk you through the area’s best hiking trails and link you with the finest links. Whether you like to pedal, jump, swim or climb, we’ll get you there. You just bring the sweat.
